Why visit Alton Towers when you could visit PortAventura?

Are you a big fan of theme parks? If you love your theme parks but fancy something a bit different from what’s on offer in the UK then why not head over to PortAventura in Spain?

Unlike theme parks such as Alton Towers in the UK PortAventura is located in sunny Salou where you are guaranteed rain free days and blissful sunshine. This of course always works to your advantage when tackling rides such as the water rapids or log flumes as you can actually dry off instead of dealing with wet clothes all day long. Another key benefit of having a theme park in the sun is so you can enjoy the water park how it’s meant to be. The Alton Towers Water Park is part indoor and part outdoor (for obvious reasons) which for me kind of takes away the real water park experience. At the PortAventura Water Park you can take on the El Tifon, float along the El Rio Loco or just relax on a sun bed in the sun. It’s great for having a break from the park and have a quick dip to cool down. The water park is just a short stroll away and is included in your park tickets, unlike the Alton Towers prices that require another payment for the water park.

Of course there is much more to PortAventura than the fact that it’s in the sunshine. PortAventura plays host to some of the biggest and best rides in Europe. For those of you that love an adrenaline rush then you will love the new roller coaster which is set to be the tallest roller coaster in Europe and can easily rival the big Alton Towers rides such as Oblivion and Rita. If scaring yourself senseless isn’t for you then there are many other fun rides to enjoy at the park, some of the best include the Gran Canyon Rapids (prepare to get wet) and El Diablo. If you’re with small kids then there is also plenty to entertain them with a huge choice of small rides and shows which the kids will love. The new SesamoAventura area where you’ll find rides and characters from Sesame Street will also delight the young ones.

PortAventura is located within a 10 min taxi ride from the main resort of Salou but if you want to stay close to the action whilst visiting the park then you can stay in one of the 4 on site hotels. The hotels are all individually themed and decorated to a really high standard. The hotels are really good value for money and you can grab some great offers such as 50% of accommodation, free tickets with all stays and the option for £1 deposits should you want to pay off the booking at a later date.

Having been to both PortAventura and Alton Towers myself I can honestly say that my visit to PortAventura was a lot more memorable. There was something about travelling to Spain and enjoying the rides as well as relaxing by the pool which made my visit a holiday and theme park all in one. Surprisingly a stay at PortAventura Hotels compared to a stay at the Alton Towers Hotel is very similar in price yet you get a lot more for your money at PortAventura. If you are considering visiting a theme park this year then make sure it’s PortAventura!
